As I blow out the candles on my birthday brownie, it's impossible not reflect back on the past year of my life. At this time last year I was rushing from work, as a Speech Language Pathologist at a large non-profit, to the airport. I was catching a plane to Orlando to tell my parents the news that had changed my life forever.
You couldn't tell yet, but I was six weeks pregnant at the time.
My parents were of course thrilled at the news. I wish I could have videotaped their incredulous reactions.
Other changes rapidly followed. We bought our first house. I quit my job, which I miss dearly. Then, in September the biggest, most amazing change of all: the birth of our daughter Rania. So, when I blew out my birthday candle today, I did not make a wish.
I already have everything I always wanted MashAllah.
Congrats Jamila! It's a beautiful thing to be aware of all of our blessings and grateful for all the good in our lives. May you be blessed and happy this birthday and all those to come (ameen!)
