Book Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Stieg Larson's over hyped novel "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" is a 644 page behemoth. Mikael Blomkvist, a disgraced journalist, is hired to unravel a forty year old mystery that has torn a family apart. He is aided by Lisabeth Salander, an odd but brilliant computer hacker.

We are introduced early on to a confusingly large cast of characters. I repeatedly referred to the family tree at the beginning of the book. After a slow start, the story races along to a shocking and disturbing climax. Along the way, Larsson describes several sexual assaults with unnecessarily explicit and macabre detail. While definitely it was a "page turner", I'm not sure I'll be coming back for more.

Rating: 3/5 stars

  1. This book dragged for me-- I mean I finished it, and it didn't take me forever, but I have zero interest in following the series. I didn't get the hype!
