The end of an era?

My local Borders began liquidating their stock on Monday. Giant signs in the windows read "10-30% off" "Everything must go!", and the worst ""Going out of business". While  part of me is thrilled to get a good deal on books (shameful I know),  part of me is saddened. Does this marks the beginning of the end of brick and mortar bookstores?

I've spent countless hours wandering through such stores, skimming books and finding hidden gems; Books that spoke to me and allowed me to travel to far away places. My bookcase is filled with such finds. I've read many of the books multiple times, recommended them to friends, lent them out. Admittedly I, like many Americans, am guilty of buying books off the internet or borrowing them from the library. But, there's something about a brick and mortar bookstore. I love the smell, a potent mixture of ink, coffee, and dreams.
