I've mentioned before the trials and tribulations of traveling with the little one. But international travel is a whole different ball game. The 24+ hour trip to Pakistan is difficult and trying for an adult. So, it's not surprising that Rania had a rough time. She was however, quite well-behaved thanks to a few helpful items. What have you done to help baby cope with long, never ending flights? Here are some tips that helped us through the long and arduous journey.
* Ask for a bulk head seat. If you have a small baby, you can also request a bassinet for baby to sleep or at least lie in. If your baby is older, it's nice to have the extra area for baby gear.
* Hydrate. Make sure you bring plenty of milk, water, and juice onto the plane. Last thing you want is a cranky, dehydrated baby. If you nurse, make sure you drink lots of water/juice too.
* Diapers and Wipes. Bring more than you think you will need. All that extra milk has to go somewhere.
* Plastic bags. Pack a few of these into your carry-on. They are great for corralling dirty clothes, toys, and garbage.
* Pack lots of clothes. Pack an extra onesie in case the plane is too hot (which happened to us). Extra outfits come in handy in case of accidents. Also pack an extra set of clothes for you. You never know.
* Blanket. Just in case the plane is too cold. Can also be used for peek a boo or as a pillow for you.
* Travel with a buddy. I know you're a great caretaker for your little one. But, trust me you'll want another pair of hands when baby is screaming at 3am. In a worst case scenario, you can take turns sleeping.
* Toys, books, and a cleaner. Pack plenty of baby's favorite things to entertain her. Take out one at a time to make them last longer. Things will fall on the sticky gross floor, so bring along a pack of pacifier wipes to clean it all up.
* Pacifier. If you use them, pack PLENTY of these. They will get lost I assure you.
